Being Fat in America

September 30, 2005

I’ve been at this weight loss thing for about 5 weeks now, and it’s now that i realize society has made many of us obese.

Yeah, It’s partly our faults too. But for many people, the media makes it worse. Whether it be Star Jones showing us that fat fucking whales can be strippers too, or burger king advertising some sandwich that has entirely too much meat. Who the hell needs sausage topped with bacon topped with ham? Does that even taste good?

And yeah, there’s the atkins diet people who think if you eat nothing but meat the pounds are just gonna fall off without a hitch. Real diets aren’t based on extremes. You’re not supposed to eat nothing but meat, the same way you’re not supposed to eat nothing but lettuce. You just need to balance your diet. Eating in an extremes is what got most of us here.

Getting back to people like star jones. I don’t believe being fat or obese should be celebrated, or portrayed in a positive light. While i don’t believe it’s okay to insult every fat person you meet, it’s almost as worse to compliment them on anything in regards to being fat. If you were on the verge of quitting excercise because you weren’t progressing as fast as you hoped, and you turned on the tv to see somebody like star jones saying it’s okay to be fat. What direction do you think you would head in? I’m betting you would quit.

Society needs to recognize that being overweight is never a good thing. How about instead of preaching acceptance of fat people, you preach diet and excercise?

Many healthy people disagree, but i believe many people are addicted to unhealthy foods. The same way some people are addicted to cigarettes, or some people are addicted to heroin. Many of us simply can’t stand to stop eating unhealthy foods. Then when you turn on the TV and see burger king advertising their midnight meat fuck fest, do you think someone with this kind of addiction can handle just ignoring that kind of advertisement? Noooooooooooo way! They’re gonna wake up at 5:50AM (10 minutes before burger king opens) speed down the street to burger king, and order 10 of those sandwiches.

Remember when networks starting banning ads for hard liquor? I think they should enforce the same policy on fast food restaurants. If people want to know what they’re serving at any of their favorite fast food restaurants, they should simply go to the restaurant to look at the menu. The liquor companies didn’t have much trouble selling their booze when they stopped advertising, it shouldn’t cause any harm for fast food joints either.

Obesity is a serious problem in this country. I’ll bet if this many people became alcoholics, alot more people would demand change.

This website has grown.

September 30, 2005

When i joined up here, there was something like 1600 hosted blogs. Now, there’s 3121 .

How do i know? An HTTP header is passed with every page load with the identifier “X-totalblogs”, and with that identifier is the number 3121.

Also with that header is the indication that this server is running php 4.3.11. Matt and friends should know that this version is out of date, and the latest 4.x build is actually 4.4.0.

I think there’s some kinda XMLRPC vuln in php 4.3.11.. I don’t remember. They should probably update that though.

Anyway, This website has gotten almost twice as large as it was when i joined. Not that i’ve been here for a while, i think it’s been about a week… something in that area.

The bad thing about website growth is that whenever a website grows, it becomes saturated with idiots, and as we all know – there are alot of idiots on the mainstream free blogging sites. Just look at the list of recently updated blogger.com blogs, You’d think those people have a dependency to include at least 18 misspellings per statement they make.

Eventually, You’re going to see so many dumbfucks on the list of recently updated wordpress.com blogs that you’re just going to start hating wordpress.com .

Sure, we’ll still have the top posts section. But it’s gonna be hard to find those posts that are worthy of the top posts section. We’ll just have to start relying on the people who have been posting the good stuff since these early days.

Perhaps there should be some kinda ratings system. That would work well. The website maintainers could even expand the “recent posts” lists to put it on it’s own page with 100 or so recent entries. We could even have a seperate section with the top 100 rated blogs.

There’s pleanty of room for growth. Hopefully this thing doesn’t lose it’s integrity.

Spam Technics

September 30, 2005

Tonight, i started wondering how spammers harvest email addresses to be used in advertising.

I’ve seen instances where spammers will grab a list of recently registered domain names, and then add common email accounts like webmaster@domain.com, sales@domain.com, support@domain.com, etc. to each domain in the list. Then, add the domains to their database, and start spamming.

Then i started wondering about the more advanced technics they could use. For instance, performing a dns query to grab the SOA record of a domain, and then taking an email out of that record.

I’ve also seen a company called aplus.net use recently registered domain lists, and public whois records, to call people on the phone to advertise their marketing, hosting, and design services.

All this got me wondering. So, i registered a domain, put my cell phone number in the whois records, put an alternate email address into the whois records. From there, i setup a dns record on my work server with another fake email address in the SOA records.

The domain has a .com extention. I’m not gonna name the complete domain because it would ruin the project. I’ll share the results at the end of the week, or at the end of the month. Everything is up, now i just have to wait for a connection 🙂

Today’s Biking

September 29, 2005

Today, i rode from my house, down lakeville road, through oxford lakes, past the limits of oxford, and all the way into downtown orion. I had to take a different route because it rained last night, and the trail was all fucked up as a result of it.

It was pretty chilly outside, i took the dad’s gloves because i knew my hands would be in some serious pain if i didn’t have something covering my hands.

I did have to stop once as a result of back pains. That wasn’t too bad.

Total trip was about 11.4 miles. I wasn’t paying attention to my average speed. I think my max speed was about 22Mph.

yeah

DSL will get installed friday. The equipment came today, but the kit they sent us says we can’t install it until the software is installed, and we can’t install the software until the connection is activated, all of that will be happening friday.

Aside from that, the 14 feet of cat5 cable they gave us won’t reach from the main phone jack in the kitchen, to the modem that’ll be sitting here at the computer. So, i’m gonna have to go up to the local computer shop tomorrow to pick up 25 feet of cat5 cable for $12. Then I’ll be able to get a connection from the phone jack way over there >>> to the modem which will be sitting on my desk over there ^^^ . The other cable they gave us to connect the modem to my ethernet port will reach far enough. Woo hoo.

Yeah Heah!

On the other side of things, here’s a post i wrote about biking today with my blogtress :

For the past 2 days, i’ve had to deal with really intense back pain when riding the bike.

It doesn’t start up immediately after starting to ride. But, it usually kicks in about 30 minutes into the trip.

Today i had to stop twice just to try and deal with the pain.

Ohh well, no way to treat it. Since i haven’t had health care for about 3 years.

Maybe some of my druggie friends can set me up with some pain pills.

Eh, that’s all. Today’s trip was 10 miles, construction on the pollyann trail is looking pretty good. See ya later.

That’s all, later biatches

And then there was today.

September 28, 2005

hey people,

I’m feelin’ very very tired right baout now. We had some turkey for dinner, and i’ve been feelin’ terrible since. Not terrible in a sense that i’m suffering, just terrible in teh sense that i can’t get up to do anything because i’m so tired.

Today i biked out to leonard. The total trip was about 16 miles, I made the mistake of eating turkey, and going out to bike. While i was out there, i took a couple pictures. Here’s one, here’s another.

The UPS man didn’t come with our DSL equipment today. It should be here by tomorrow. The DSL order status page has all kinds of screwed up information. First, it doesn’t list a UPS tracking number. Second, it still says it is going to be a technician install. I’ll give them a call tomorrow to ask what’s up.

That’s about it for today. See ya later.
